A couple of weeks ago, I had seen the Tarteist Lip Paints ($20) in my local Sephora and I thought they were beautiful but didn't give them much more thought until I noticed them on Sephora.com when I was placing an order. I decided to buy "Twerk" because it looked like a beautiful shade, although very similar to a lot of other lip products I own... You can say I have a type! ;)
I just received this in the mail the other day (3/2/2016) and immediately had my reservations about it. I swatched it on the back of my hand next to Kat Von D's Everlasting Liquid Lipstick "Bauhau5" because I felt like the colors were very similar & felt like they'd perform similarly. "Twerk" just smeared & seemed so messy while "Bauhau5" performed like a champ. I bought this with the idea that it was a matte-finish lip product that would feel and last more like a liquid lipstick vs. what it is. I went to bed and didn't think much more of it. When I woke up it was completely smeared off but my Kat Von D lippie was still very present!
So this afternoon after making sure my lips were thoroughly moisturized & exfoliated I tried "Twerk" on my lips. I had pretty much already convinced myself just to return it but I figured it was unfair if I didn't actually wear it on my lips because I might just LOVE it... Trying it only confirmed my thoughts. I will be returning this ASAP.
Now, I'm sure there are a lot of people that love this product, but the actual formula is just not for me. I need and want something long-lasting that I don't have to worry about every 5 minutes to see if it's smearing? I do love the color & it has a minty smell that I don't mind, but it looks horrible on my lips. It feels very creamy on the lips, like a mousse, but it also "crumbles" like that texture can do. I only applied one layer & I even removed it and reapplied it to make sure I didn't put on too much, but it looked gross each time. Not to mention it slips and slides all over, although it claimed to be matte and long-wearing which I disagree with. My lips didn't feel like I was wearing a matte product but I felt like it was drying out my lips which I found weird.
Call me cheap but $20 is a lot of money to be spent on a product that I don't love. I'd rather exchange it for something else and get my money's worth out of it. I'm actually pretty disappointed about this purchase, but mainly because it wasn't what I "thought" it was going to be. I can see a lot of people wanting a lip product like this is they prefer lipstick over liquid lipstick, but it's not my thing!
