In November 2015, I picked up these L.A. Girl Matte Flat Finish Pigment Glosses. After watching & reading reviews, I realized these were more like 'liquid lipstick' which I think we're all still obsessed with. The line actually has quite a range of colors & they retail for less than $5 each, depending on where you buy them.
I got the colors: Rebel, Stunner & Frisky (shown left to right) and as you can tell, they were BRAND NEW & un-opened when I got them. I didn't even open them or swatch them right away, mainly because they were pushed to the back of my 'lip drawer' & almost forgotten... When I did finally try them I was pleased with the colors, but I noticed when swatched on the back of my hand, they were a little harder to clean off. That didn't stop me from wearing them though... I did a beautiful ombre look using them & I l loved how quickly they dried & applied... I was thinking this was one of the best purchases I'd made in a long time...
Fast forward a couple hours & my lips were BURNING & swollen! I felt like they were on fire, so I checked them out in the mirror & they were actually oozing, so I immediately removed it! My lips were raw, bleeding & hurt a lot! It was so weird, because I've tried, owned & loved other liquid lipsticks & never had a reaction like this before!
The day this happened, I was out of town, so I did the best I could... I kept doctoring them with carmex, after the bleeding finally stopped. It was pretty bad & very uncomfortable. It hurt to eat or drink... I'm guessing that whatever ingredient gave it it's staying power was just extremely too harsh on my lips. The next morning, they were still burned and painful. My advice to anyone reading this is, use ALL products with caution & at your own risk... When I originally posted about this in December, others had similar things happen to them & said this particular product was extremely drying, while others said they used it all the time & loved it. I don't know this to be scientifically true, but I'd like to believe they use ingredients that are better for us on products we are paying more for. I think when it comes to anything that claims on being long-lasting, you get what you pay for. Although I'd rather pay $5 vs. $20+, I don't mind paying more for products that I know work, my favorites are the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks ($20 at Sephora.)
I did not post this to bash the company by any means, I actually use & love other L.A. Girl Cosmetics, I'm writing this as a warning & reminder to everyone. Look for reviews before trying new products, listen to the good & the bad & make educated decisions before purchasing products so you have an idea of how the product is supposed to work & you know other people's experiences. Like I said, use ALL products with caution & at your own risk... Read ingredients, watch YouTube reviews, read blog posts... do your homework!
