NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation
$48- 1 fl oz - 20 Shades Available
What it is:
NARS claims it's weightless & oil-free, giving you 16 hours of wear time. They also claims it'll work on all skin types and tones.
Sounds pretty amazing right? For close to $50 it really can't afford to be anything but amazing, in my opinion.
The bottle needs to be shaken very well before application. NARS recommends you apply it with your hands, first putting 1 pump into your palm & then warming it between your hands. Then, with your fingers, apply it starting in the center of your face working your way out, pressing it into the skin.
Lately I've been really into researching and testing foundations. I've been on the hunt for my high-end holy grail & have yet to find it. Recently I bought the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint (which I reviewed here & love btw) and it made me want to try other NARS foundations ASAP. When I was in Sephora, I was looking at the 'All Day Luminous Weightless' foundations & was intrigued. It's a very popular product among beauty gurus so I thought I'd give it a try!
I didn't notice the instructions, until after I purchased the product, but my first thought was, "wow, this seems pretty high maintenance!" I prefer applying my foundations with a brush or some type of sponge, but I tried the finger method a couple of times... Personally I like it applied best with a beauty blender. The foundation gives me medium-full coverage, depending on how many pumps I use. I like to pump it directly onto a damp beauty blender, dot it all over my face in sections & then blend it out. It dries pretty quickly even though it's so liquidy but I'd like to believe that's because it's a long-lasting formula. I also tried it with different brushes, but I felt it was streaky & would sometimes look blotchy in areas.
Although this foundation is "luminous" and looks beautiful on great skin, it also clings onto every dry patch of your skin, even parts you didn't realize were dry. In order to get your skin prepped for this product you must exfoliate & moisturize properly & use a smoothing primer... I don't want it to seem like I don't already follow these steps, but I feel like it's harder to work with this foundation unless you have oily or 100% smooth skin. This product is not very forgiving of any textural issues you may have. I have normal skin but I have issues with my chin due to hormones, so I do deal with textural issues in that area of my face especially. You can see what I'm talking about when viewing the picture of my face using this foundation. I can usually 'hide' those areas with other products, but this product is not forgiving AT ALL!
Do I think this product is worth it?
Overall I think this is a nice foundation, but it really depends on your skin type. I don't think a person would have a hard time finding their match because this particular foundation line has 20 shades to choose from & I am pretty happy with the shade I got, although it's a tad dark, but would be perfect in the coming warmer months. Foundation works differently for everyone though, unfortunately it isn't a one-size-fits-all thing. I noticed no matter how much I exfoliated or whatever moisturizer & primer I used, it would still cling to my dry areas. I loved how it looked in photography for the most part but up close it really sunk into my fine lines & wrinkles besides exaggerating my problem areas. I could buy a drugstore foundation that gave me the same results for a 1/4 of the price... Do I personally think this foundation is worth $48? Yes, to someone with immaculate skin, but it's not for me. I thought about holding onto it & using it from time to time but I don't like the idea of a $50 just sitting around when it could be used for something I love and would use all the time!
Let me know if you've tried this foundation? Hate it or love it?
